Sonic Can Now Give You Directions While You Drive

Sega and Waze have teamed up to bring Sonic the Hedgehog to the GPS app, and as part of the project, Sonic's voice will give you directions wherever you go.

Starting today, October 15, Waze users can activate Sonic as a new voice navigation option and choose between English and French. Users will hear Sonic tell you where to go, “with his usual composure and confidence to show the way,” Sega said in a press release. The only thing he probably won't say is that you need to go fast.

Sonic comes to Waze.

Additionally, various Sonic-themed icons are now available in the Waze app. One of them, “Speedster Lightning”, depicts your car as a car from Sonic Racing: Crossworlds. Users can also select an “Energetic” mood to give the Waze app “an extra Sonic personality.”

Sega said it has partnered with Waze to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog. The developer said people can expect “even more exciting announcements” in the year leading up to the 35th anniversary in 2026.

Sonic isn't Waze's first gaming crossover, as the Google-owned GPS app previously partnered with Microsoft to have Master Chief give you guidance. There was also A World of Warcraft crossover where Thrall gives you directions.
