  • Picto is a new puzzle game for mobile platforms that uses your camera.
  • Record your surroundings to turn them into terrain
  • It has a demo and an upcoming Kickstarter in the works.

The words “innovative,” “game-changing,” and “disruptive” are thrown around a lot these days. It is often used with a lot of exaggeration and is met with a skeptical raised eyebrow from most. So believe me when I say it's coming mobile puzzle Picto caught my attention because it was interesting.

Available as an Early Access demo for Android and iOS TestFlight, Picto is a simple, straightforward platform puzzle game. So what's so interesting about this? Well, the fact that your environment shapes the level itself!

Yes, using your phone's front camera, Picto's dedicated engine captures your surroundings. It then transforms them into platforms that your character can jump and jump on. I'm sure someone has tried something similar before, but Picto looks like much more than a simple tech demo.

First, you can download the demo version of Picto right now and try it out for yourself. And as far as proof of concept goes, this is a pretty compelling example. There is also Kickstarter in development to take the development of Picto even further.

I won't lie and say I don't see any potential problems with the Picto. First, the core mechanics require some innovative changes to keep them from becoming stale. If the cheat is simple to find a flat angular surface, it won't have much durability. But I'm definitely interested to see how it develops further and what new mechanics it might introduce.
