Marta Jachubek-McKeever is a Polish-Canadian musician and member of the band. Death of a Fan, Girl Nobody, esl and saltspringunderground, also a solo artist, died after a battle with cancer.
Her husband Edward McKeever posted on Instagram on Tuesday (October 7) the message: “My wife Martha died tonight when she was attacked by the Full Moon, a roaring fire down the hill, in the presence of family and friends.” She turned 46 this month.
Jachubek-McKeever lived on Salt Spring Island in British Columbia, where a public celebration of life will be held today at Bullock Lake Farm. This is a luncheon, so participants are encouraged to bring a dish and wear colorful clothing.
On February 4, 2024, Jachubek-McKeever was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She raised money for treatment through GoFundMe – a campaign that has since been updated “to cover Martha's funeral costs and give Edward and the whole family a chance to grieve.” To date, the campaign has raised $132,587, exceeding its $120,000 goal.
Jachoubek-McKeever also wrote children's books and music called Martunia. She wrote music for films and worked on a short film. Clear was nominated for a Leo Award in 2021; Clear has since been turned into a feature film, which also features Jachubek-McKeever's music, and a distribution deal was just announced today.
