Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Monday praised President Donald Trump for brokering a Middle East peace deal aimed at ending the war between Israel and Hamas and freeing 20 living Israeli hostages held by the terrorist group.
Schumer, the highest-ranking Jewish elected lawmaker, now joins fellow Democrats such as Check And Hillary Clinton expressed gratitude to Trump and his administration for brokering the peace agreement. The announcement came just hours after House Speaker Mike Johnson beaten Congressional Democrats for “strange silence” on peace talks and for refusing to accredit Trump for securing the hostage deal. “Today is a wonderful day. Finally, finally, the last living hostages brutally held by Hamas have returned home, a huge and stunning sign of relief,” Schumer wrote in his message. statement. “I appreciate the tremendous support of the tireless families of the hostages, President Trump, his administration and everyone who helped make this moment possible.”
Schumer highlighted the celebration of the homecoming of hostages, as well as those who died before returning home. He advocated a “lasting end” to the war and emphasized the immediate reconstruction of Gaza and the “influx of humanitarian aid” for Palestinians in the region.
Many Democrats excluded Trump from statements praising the peace deal, prompting strong backlash criticism from Johnson. One of the most prominent Democrats to do so, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, did not mention Trump in his Monday X speech. mail commenting on the return of the hostages.

Schumer initially avoided mentioning Trump during his speech Wednesday. comments at the first stage of the ceasefire agreement.
Trump appealed in the Israeli parliament on Monday morning, where he expressed gratitude to “all countries in the Arab and Muslim world that have come together to put pressure on Hamas.” The president then flew to Egypt, where he formally signed the peace agreement along with world leaders from Qatar, Turkey and Egypt.
“It is critical that every party involved seizes the opportunity to finally build a lasting peace, ultimately through a realized two-state solution that brings security, prosperity and dignity to both Israelis and Palestinians,” Schumer said in a statement.
