Former TT Games managing director Tom Stone has launched a new UK studio called Second Star Games.
Second Star is based in Manchester and will focus on creating interactive experiences for young players and families.
Stone has staffed the nascent studio with a team of industry veterans, including many who worked with him on the LEGO franchise at TT Games.
The studio's debut game will be a fantasy adventure called Neverland: Peter Pan's Adventure.
As the title suggests, the project will be set in the world of Neverland, and has been greenlit after Second Star received a long-term, worldwide, exclusive license to develop a set of games based on the intellectual property from perpetual rights holder Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).
GOSH is one of the world's leading children's hospitals, providing life-changing treatment and care to more than 750 young patients every day.
Peter Pan and Wendy author JM Barrie transferred the rights to GOSH in 1929 after the hospital asked him to serve on the committee. Instead, he felt that offering the institute the rights to his series would have a greater impact.
The GOSH charity will receive royalties from all sales Neverland: Peter Pan's Adventure.
“We’re delighted to be working with expert partners at Second Star Games to bring the magical world of Neverland to life for a generation of young gamers,” said Jenny Martin, Senior Brand Licensing Manager at GOSH Charity. “Neverland, a place of adventure and imagination, provides an amazing backdrop for what we know will be a first-class game.”
