On Friday, the state of Minnesota told the Trump administration it would not provide a “substantial response” to the state's demand to ban transgender-identifying men from women's sports and spaces.
Minnesota Solicitor General Liz Cramer wrote that the timeline for the state's action is unclear and criticized the federal investigation into Title IX and the suggestion that the state “faces imminent reductions in federal funding” if it does not make changes, The Minnesota Star Tribune reported.
“As you know, if the federal government intends to follow the law, it will have to go through an extensive, multi-step administrative process before any federal funding for Minnesota education programs or activities can ever be terminated,” Cramer wrote.
Trump administration announced September 30th, what Minnesota is in violation of Title IX because of its policy of allowing men who identify as transgender to participate in women's sports and occupy women's facilities.
Department of Education (ED) and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) specifically accused The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) and the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) for violating Title IX's prohibition on sex discrimination for their policies prioritizing “gender identity” over biological reality.
“The joint study found that for several years, MDE and MSHSL allowed male athletes to compete on the women's alpine ski team, women's cross country team, women's lacrosse team, women's track and field team, women's volleyball team and women's softball team,” the ED said in a press release.
ED Office of Civil Rights initiated investigation in February after MSHSL publicly said it would follow state laws that prioritize “gender identity” over federal anti-discrimination law and President Donald Trump's laws. decree“Keep men out of women's sports.” By June, HHS had initiated its own compliance review after a male athlete from Champlin Park High School, who identifies as transgender, recorded multiple wins in MSHSL women's softball games. including state championship.
ED and HHS issued a proposed resolution agreement with MDE and MSHSL to voluntarily resolve Title IX violations within 10 days or “risk imminent enforcement action,” the agencies said.
Assistant White House press secretary Liz Houston told a local publication: “While “Minnesota officials continue to intentionally endanger female athletes with their radical embrace of gender ideology, while President Trump seeks to restore common sense policies to keep men out of women's sports.”
More than two dozen Minnesota school board members issued a letter They supported men who identify as transgender in women's sports on Friday, according to the report.
The letter in support of transgender people follows an earlier letter signed by more than 200 Minnesota board members who called on the state to change its policies to avoid the risk of federal funding and support equity in women's sports.
“We cannot afford to jeopardize millions of federal funds and suffer ongoing budget uncertainty due to ongoing Title IX violations,” the letter said.
