Square Enix has announced that Dissidia Final Fantasy is returning, but not under the circumstances many fans were hoping for.
Dissidia Final Fantasy started out as a series of fighting games for the PSP, pitting FF characters from all eras against each other, but publisher Square Enix has since used the Dissidia subtitle in virtually every game where JRPG icons collide, most recently with Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia in 2017, also on mobile devices.
Fast forward eight years later and Squinix played the same card. new website reports that the “next evolution” of the series will soon be coming to mobile devices, with the broadcast set to air on October 14th duly pulling back the curtain on more details.
At the moment we only have a silhouette of 10 characters. I can definitely spot Lightning from FF13, Cloud from FF7 and Prompto from FF15 – it looks like Auron from FF10, Zidane from FF9 and Rinoa from FF8 are in the mix too, although their dark figures are a little harder to put a pin in.
Needless to say, fans of the two original fighting games aren't too happy, especially since Square Enix has a rocky history with online mobile gaming, to say the least. Just earlier this year the publisher close the Kingdom Hearts mobile spin-off after execution same with Nier's most ignored entry.
“I know people hate mobile and gachas, but Opera Omnia was very good,” one Redditor said. reacted. “I have little faith that everything will be as good, but I can dream.”
“Square please at least do a remaster of Duodecim,” said another.
“I would be glad if SE had no history [end of service] in amazingly quick succession,” the third commented.
In the meantime, remember with best final fantasy games of all times.
