Toronto Blue Jays they'll have to endure another postseason series without their star buddy.
Bo Bichette Wasn't named to 26-man roster for ALCS vs. Seattle Mariners, Sportsnet's Hazel May reported on the Sunday before the first game.
Bichette also missed the ALCS with a knee sprain that has sidelined him since early September.
He started an easy run at Yankee Stadium before Game 4 and faced live hitting in Toronto the day before, leading to optimism about his return.
But the two-time All-Star's status in Sunday's series opener was called into question on Saturday when he was seen running around the bases for the first time since the injury and appeared to be in discomfort.
In video captured by Sportsnet, Bichette started at first base, then moved to second and winced after rounding the bag before approaching. He then walked to third base, where Blue Jays bench coach Don Mattingly, first base coach Mark Budzinski, medical director Andrew Pipkin and strength and conditioning coach Scott Weber were watching him run, and fell to the turf. The group deliberated for a couple of minutes before Bichette, visibly upset, walked gingerly off the field.
The 27-year-old would provide a big boost to a Blue Jays offense that has already scored 34 runs in four postseason games.
Before the injury, he was hitting .311/.357/.483 in 139 games, leading MLB in hits and doubles. Bichette finished second in both categories despite missing the final 20 games of the season.
First pitch of the first game will take place on Sunday at 8:08 pm ET / 5:08 pm ET with live coverage on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
