NEW DELHI (AP) — Kuldeep Yadav took three wickets in the morning session of day three as the West Indies were on the verge of continuing in the second Test against India on Sunday.
West Indies were 217-8 at lunch on day three with Kuldeep Yadav taking 4-72 in 22 overs.
At the break, Hari Pierre (19 not out) and Anderson Philip (19 not out) were in the ascendancy.
India lead by another 301 runs after they built up a score of 518-5 in their first innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal (175) and Shubman Gill (129 not out) both scoring centuries.
Starting at 140-4 on Sunday, the West Indies batters were hoping to run out the clock after a decent performance in the final session of the third day.
Overnight batters Shai Hope and Tevin Imlak survived 6.3 overs before India got the breakthrough when Kuldeep Yadav bowled Hope with a delivery that went sharply around the bat.
Hope scored 36 off 57 balls with five fours. This was his 31st consecutive Test innings without a half-century.
In the next over, Yadav caught Imlach at short leg. There was drama as the batter reviewed the decision, but DRS found Imlach (21lb) instead and West Indies slumped to 163-6.
Yadav then added his third wicket of the morning by catching Justin Greaves lbw for 17.
Mohammed Siraj bowled Jomel Warrican (1) as West Indies lost four wickets for 19 runs in seven overs.
Pierre and Philippe then put on 93 balls, adding 42 runs in an unbeaten ninth wicket stand before lunch to calm the tourists.
India leads 1-0 in the two-match series after winning the first Test in Ahmedabad by an innings and 140 runs.
West Indies have not beaten India in their last 26 Tests (home or away) since 2002.
