Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton died at the age of 79 on October 11, 2025 in California.
“There is no further information available at this time and her family has asked for privacy at this time of great sadness,” Keaton's rep said. People.
Keaton was born Diane Hall on January 5, 1946 in Los Angeles. She became a screen star in the 1970s when she played Kay Adams, the wife of gangster Michael Corleone, in Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather and The Godfather Part II.
But it was a series of Woody Allen films that cemented Keaton as a screen legend: Sleeper, Love and Death, Interiors, Manhattan, Manhattan Murder Mystery and 1977's Annie Hall, which earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress. Keaton's eccentric vintage menswear style at Annie Hall made Keaton a fashion icon in the 1970s.
In the 1980s, Keaton appeared in the films Reds, The Little Drummer Girl, Mrs. Soffel, Crimes of the Heart and The Good Mother.
In the 1990s, Keaton reprized her role as Kay Adams Corleone in The Godfather Part III and starred opposite Steve Martin in the 1991 film Father of the Bride, its 1995 sequel, and the 2020 short film Father of the Bride Part III.
The Father of the Bride films are just some of Keaton's collaborations with screenwriter-turned-director Nancy Meyers, who also wrote Baby Boom and the rom-com Something's Gotta Give, in which Keaton co-starred with Jack Nicholson.
Keaton starred opposite Bette Midler and Goldie Hawn in the 1996 comedy The First Wives Club, and with Meryl Streep, Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro in 1997's Marvin's Room.
On television, Keaton appeared in the series “The Young Pope” and lent her voice to the animated series “Green Eggs and Ham.”
Keaton's 21st-century screen roles included The Family Stone, Mad Money, Morning Glory, Finding Dory, And So It Goes, Poms and Book Club (and its sequel). Her last film was Summer Camp 2024.
