Captain Olivia Benson said goodbye to one of her team's detectives, but not before passing on some words of wisdom.
On Thursday, October 9, “Law & Order: SVU” episode entitled “Vicious Circle”, Detective Joe Velasco (Octavio Pisano) informed Benson (Mariska Hargitay) that he was leaving her squad.
However, he was hesitant to take this step, telling Benson that he didn't want to leave her empty-handed while she was already running out of dick. (Sergeant Ice-T. Odafin “Fin” Tutuola is injured. in the September 25 season premiere episode and has been on leave since then.)
Benson, who was with Special Victims Unit for over 25 yearsVelasco said she did not stay in the unit “out of loyalty.”
“I would never expect anyone to do this,” she said. “I’m here because I think this is where I can contribute the most.”
“You need to be where you can make the most difference,” she added.
So where does Velasco go from here? Read on to find out more.
Why did Velasco leave SVU?
Velasco eventually left the SVU squad to work for the Drug Enforcement Administration.
At the end of the Season 27 premiere, he was approached to get in the car, and in the next episode, he told Benson that the DEA wanted him to run an undercover operation.
“I got it,” Benson said. “It makes sense given all your experience with cartels.”
Pisano joined SVU for Season 23 back in 2021. His character is from Mexico and had a rough upbringing that included encounters with gang members. He realized that this lifestyle was not for him and joined the NYPD.
Velasco told Benson that the DEA agents wanted him to keep their job offer a secret, including from her.
“I know I’m putting you in a bad position,” he said. “And if you want to report it, I understand.”

Benson swore to keep the information between the two of them and asked him to be careful.
In the October 9 episode, Velasco told Benson that their new boss, Katherine Tynan (Noma Dumezweni), wanted to see him, likely after hearing about his “service with the DEA, or her dog Griffin may have seen something, I don't know what,” he said. Jake Griffin (Corey Cott) is the team's new detective.and his father was once Tynan's partner.
“He has powerful friends, so be careful,” Captain Rene Curry (Liked Donna Kelly) had previously warned the Griffin SVU team.

Velasco expressed concern to Benson about his upcoming meeting with the chief because she had not informed Tynan of his DEA proposal.
– What, should I turn you in now? – he said. “I'm not a rat.”
“You will tell her the truth,” Benson told him, “and not a word otherwise.”
When Velasco met with the chief in her office along with two DEA agents, Tynan assured him that he had nothing to worry about and that they were “just going to talk, share our feelings, see if we have the same goals and desires.”
During his last conversation with Benson, Velasco expressed excitement about the new opportunity.
“I have to tell you. This last job I did for them, I didn't sleep for four nights. I didn't sleep and wasn't afraid. I was just delighted. You know, I was excited,” he said.
“Well, then you better get some rest, because I don’t think you can get much rest on the West Coast,” Benson replied.
Who will replace Velasco at SVU?
Considering Benson's team killed Fin and Velasco, it's safe to say they need help.
promo The next episode, titled “Clickbait,” teases the return of “someone we trust,” Benson said.

Cue sergeant. Amanda Rollins (ur.I was dizzy), who worked alongside Benson for ten years. before she left.
Giddish reappeared as guest star in various episodes after that exit, and now she's back like series regular in season 27.
“See you in the morning, boss,” she tells Benson in the promo.
