Battlefield 6The game's beta maps have received some criticism for being smaller in size – at least as far as the series' giant warfields are concerned – but the game's developers are just “really excited” for people to check out the more content-rich maps that were planned “from the beginning.”
Talking to PC Gamers MagazineIn Issue 415, design director Salim Fasahat explained that there was “intention” behind the maps unlocked in the shooter's beta: “They were intentionally smaller than the ones we know are coming.”
“It was done for a few reasons, but it was planned to get a better understanding of some of the different modes, the scale at which they operate, what modes work with what types of maps, and a lot of good things came out of it,” Fasahat continued, before saying that the team is “really excited for people to explore all these maps.”
Technical director Christian Buhl also explained that the choice of maps in the beta was due to logistical reasons and is not indicative of how large the titular battlefields will be in the full game. “In some ways, when we make smaller maps, it's easier to test and focus on gunfights,” he said.
“So those were the ones we started with. And also, technically it's easier… you know, we've been planning on launching these maps all along, but you know this is the first time we're going to put some of the really big maps in BF Labs.”
Battlefield Studios' grand plan appears to be working as the new shooter The score on Metacritic is the best the series has achieved in recent years.although it didn't quite reach the heights of Battlefield 3. Our own Battlefield 6 review said that it is “deep enough to be tactical and simple enough to be accessible, and while the single-player experience only elicits shrugs, the multiplayer will keep people coming back for more.”
