Ryan Clark pleaded guilty Thursday morning, admitting he dropped the ball, saying Kyren Lacey “innocent man” during Monday Night Football.
“Two lives were lost. Herman Hall, a man who dedicated his life to serving others, and Kyren Lacey, a young man I wish I could tell him what he had to live for. My heart breaks for both of them, their families and their loved ones,” the 45-year-old former NFL player said on “First Take.”

“In full transparency, I knew Kyren Lacey personally. But for me there is nothing more important than the truth. I always try my best to combine authenticity with the most complete and up-to-date information available.”
“I was unable to do so on Monday evening based on subsequent evidence that was released by the Louisiana State Police. I have set the highest standards of fairness and, most importantly, righteousness in my work. I did not live up to that standard,” added R.S.
The apology came just days after Clark cleared Lacey of responsibility for the fatal crash that killed the 78-year-old man in December 2024.
“Kieren Lacy should have been in the NFL. Kyren Lacey was accused of something and was on trial for something he didn't do, and he died having to live with the guilt and the consequences of the guilty man knowing he was innocent,” Clark said Monday on “SportsCenter,” sitting next to the host. Ryan continued… “It was recently discovered that [Kyren] was 72 yards from the crash site. These police and state troopers attempted to coerce the doctor and use manipulative techniques that resulted in this young man being put behind bars. They changed his joy. They changed his life. And in the end he committed suicide.”
Clark's comments came after Lacey's lawyer published new information questioning his client's role in the disaster.

RC's remarks attracted so much attention that the Louisiana State Police issued an 11-plus minute “critical incident briefing” refuting Clark's account.
Among the evidence shared by LSP… surveillance video and eyewitness accounts of what allegedly happened before the fatal accident.

Lacey, 24, was arrested for negligent homicide shortly after the crash… but died by suicide in April 2025, even before he was charged in court.
Kyren Lacy, a star wide receiver, was projected to be a first- or second-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
