Logitech will brick its $100 Pop smart home buttons on October 15

In another loss for smart home early adopters, Logitech announced it would be turning off all Pop switches on October 15th.

In August 2016, Logitech released Pop switches, which provide quick access to a range of smart home activities, including third-party gadgets. For example, people can customize popup buttons to launch Philips Hue or Insteon lighting presets, play a playlist through a Sonos speaker, or control Lutron smart blinds. Each button could store three actions, recognize smart home devices on a shared Wi-Fi network, and could be controlled through a dedicated Android or iOS app. The Pop Home Switch Starter Pack launched at $100, and the individual Pop Add-on home switches debuted at $40 each.

A company spokesperson told Ars Technica that on September 29, Logitech told customers that their Pop switches would soon become e-waste. According to copies email sent via RedditLogitech's notice stated:

Effective October 15, 2025, your POP buttons and connected hub will no longer be supported and will lose all functionality.

To compensate, Logitech provided affected customers with a 15 percent discount coupon on select Logitech products, including Ultimate Ears speakers. According to the email, the coupon is only valid in the U.S. until March 31, 2026, and does not apply to Logitech Pro or RS gaming racing wheels, video conferencing products, the Logitech for Business line, or “recently released products.”

Abandoned Logitech smart home

A Logitech spokesperson did not respond to Ars' questions regarding e-waste, the short notice of cancellation, or whether Pop Button owners will be able to continue using the devices locally after October 15th.

“We've supported the POP ecosystem for nearly a decade, but as technology has evolved, we've made the decision to discontinue support for this device,” a Logitech spokesperson told Ars, repeating messages from an email sent to customers.
