Posthaste: As employees battle burnout, companies lose millions

According to the study, almost 40 percent of Canadian employees suffer from burnout, which costs companies with 500 employees about $ 3.4 million a year.

New Canada Life survey.

In addition to burnout, only 42 percent of employees with a diagnosis of mental health tell their employer about this, fearing that this can harm their career, the survey says.

“The results of this year emphasize the acute need for Canadian jobs to go beyond awareness and begin to act,” said Michael Cooper, vice president of the Canadian Mental Health Center (MHRC) in his press release. “Since almost 40 percent of employees report burnout, and more than half are faced with mental health problems that affect their work, the price of inaction is too high.”

According to Canada Life, only 36 percent of employees said that their workplaces have programs to prevent burnout, so the companies have a real opportunity to save some money, spending some preliminary expenses for mental health support.

The insurer predicts that measures to prevent burnout can save companies with a staff of at least 500 employees of about $ 1.7 million a year, effectively reducing the relevant expenses.

“Burning is not just a personal problem; This is a problem at the workplace having its own price, ”said Mary Anne Bainton, director of cooperation and strategy of Canada Life's WorkPlace Strategies for Mental Health. “When organizations invest in prevention, they not only protect their employees, they defend their profit.”

Similar Robert Half Canada Inc.

In March, which states that 47 percent of respondents felt burned out compared to 42 percent in 2024 and 33 percent in 2023.

According to the Robert Half survey, most often representatives of legal and HR professional, working parents and generation of millennials report. At that time, respondents identified as factors contributing to this long working day, hard work, insufficient balance between work and personal life and few opportunities for growth.

“When the employees are burning out due to the large workload and the inequuum of the teams, the enterprises risk reducing performance and moral spirit, lose valuable team members and lose income due to the failure to fulfill the key deadlines for critical projects,” said Vasilopoulos, senior managing director of Robert Half in his press release.

Canada Life recommends teaching companies to recognize signs of burnout among employees, promote a healthy balance between work and personal life and provide scientifically sound support for mental health, which helps employees feel comfortable, expressing their opinion.

According to the latest trading data, Canada exports are reduced.

In August, a shortage of trading goods in August reached $ 6.3 billion, which is almost twice as much as in July. Economists predicted a deficiency of only $ 5.6 billion.

“The restoration of Canadian trade after weakness in the second quarter will never be a straight line, and in August the curve was observed in the wrong direction, and the trade deficit increased more than expected,” said Andrew Grantham, economist CIBC Capital Markets.

The deficit makes some economists think about whether Canada GDP can be reduced in August.

There is an old saying comparing life with a roll of toilet paper: the closer you come to an end, the faster it rotates. Such thinking makes some strive to stop putting off the joy and go to a good part of life, while there are still a lot of paper in the roll. Focusing attention on targeted investment and risk management can lead to the best results both in financial and professional terms.
