One of the best left -handed defenders in the history of football will end its playing career at the end of the MLS MIAMI season.
Jordi Alba, who performed Barcelona And the Spanish teams, which dominated in football for most of the 2010s, announced on Tuesday that it would resign when the season of Inter Miami will end, whose date is not yet known, since the club will be released in the playoffs of the MLS Cup later this month.
This news was a surprise, given that the 36-year-old football player in May signed a contract with Miami for several years, the club, which he joined in 2023, along with the former teammates of Barcelona, Lionel Messi and Sergio Buskitts. Alba’s new agreement was calculated until the end of the 2027 season.
“I am glad to extend my contract, because I have a desire to continue to speak, as well as because I feel in the club, because of the love that I get from the fans at every match,” Alba said then. “We have a desire to continue to compete, continue to win and, I hope, win as many titles as possible.”
The defender took a completely different tone, announcing the completion of his professional career only 145 days later.
“It's time to close the really significant head of my life,” Alba said in a video published in his Instagram profile on Wednesday. “I do this with full conviction, with peace and happiness. I feel that I have gone this path with all the passion that I had. And now the right moment has come to open a new chapter and close the previous one with the best feeling.”
With a growth of 5 feet 7 inches, the effectiveness of Alba as an attacking left -wing defender mainly came down to his pace, the technical ability to own the ball and, it would seem, telepathic connection with Messi. Together, these factors provided Alba with a more effective result than most players in his position: at the time of writing, he scored 51 goals and made 135 programs in 700 professional club games.
In an interview with Sidu Low from Guardian in 2023.Alba said that leaving Barcelona was his choice, and that he did it to help a team experiencing financial difficulties.
“The club knows what“ efforts ”I made at certain points or what I am doing now,” Alba said. “They gave me the opportunity to stay for another year. It would be very easy. It was my house. But I thought that the right, fair and honest act would be to go aside. No one forced me.”
Alba's statement followed Buskitts’s statement, who in September stated that he would also end his career at the end of this season in Miami.

In his video, Alba found time to pay tribute to all his professional clubs, calling Barcelona the “club of my life” along with the youth clubs in which he developed, “Inter Miami” and “Valencia”, where he debuted in La Liga and achieved fame before his transition to Barcelona.
As part of Barcelona, the left defender won five La League titles, five cups of Spain, the 2014/15 Champions League and the 2015 club championship. He won the “fan shield” of 2024 as part of Inter Miami and can add another senior club award to his trophy cabinet when Inter Miami enters the standings. MLS The playoffs of the Cup will take place later this month.
He won 93 matches for Spain From 2011 to 2023, scoring nine heads. During this time, he was part of the Spanish national team at all major tournaments, including the 2014, 2018 and 2022 world championships, as well as European, 2016 and 2020 championships.
