LSU football passes through the first part of the 2025 college football season. Tigers were the first in the 6th week. And preparing to start the exhausting sheet of SEC. Tigers 1-1 in a conference game after the victory over Florida at home and fell in Olya Miss on the road.
LSU in general 4-1, and despite the loss, Tigers remain in the play for the play -off football in college.
With five games in books, we have a good idea of who this team is LSU. The sample size is now large enough to replace our pre -season a priorors. We learned a lot about LSU in five games – some good, some bad. The pre -season expectations were high. Some of these hopes were fulfilled, especially on the defensive side of the ball. There were more questions in the attack than answers.
Here are five things that we learned about LSU football in the first part of the 2025 season.
1. Protection LSU – one of the best in the country
LSU hired Blake Baker's defense coordinator after the defense of the tigers was historically bad in 2023. Baker gave immediate results in 2024, but LSU was still one step lower, where he wanted to be. Now Baker has the staff that he needs, and the LSU defense plays on an elite level.
LSU protection takes 5th place at the national level, according to SP+. A lot of time has passed since Leningen was the defense.
LSU signed a translation class No. 1 in the country, making key additions in the secondary and on the defense line. The translation of the defensive defenders of the Mansoor DELANE and AJ Haulcy play at the All-SEC level. Ahead Jack Pibern and Patrick Payton provide the necessary presence of veterans in defense.
Baker protection is aggressive. LSU trusts its corner defenders to stay in the lighting of a man, which allows the front seven to play with hair in fire. This led to protection, which is fully able to stop running and pass.
2. LSU cannot start the ball
In 2024, the LSU game was a problem, and Tigers made a lot of efforts to fix it, but the results were not there. LSU still cannot start the ball.
According to Gameonpaper, LSU occupies 103 No. 103 at the national level in EPA/Run and No. 125 to accelerate success. These numbers will not reduce it for the team with the plays of the play -off.
LSU's inability to launch the ball, caused a load on the rest of the crime. This allowed protection to sit back and prevent a big game. This leaves LSU in a position where he cannot create explosive games, and he cannot methodically start the ball around the field. This makes clogging glasses.
Is this the final product? It's too early to talk. But, as I said in the introduction, five games are a fairly large sample size to generate a real conclusion. LSU games are a serious problem, as we get to half of the season.
3. Mansoor Delane – star
I mentioned Delana, discussing the protection, but it is good enough to earn my own section. The corner defender from Virginia Tech is one of the best defenders in the country. If the season ends today, Delain will be an all -American. LSU knew that he was receiving a solid defender veteran, but Delain exceeds all expectations.
According to PFF, the assessment of the cover of Deland is 87.7. The next best mark in SEC is 81.5.
Crimes were aimed at Delain 20 times, having completed only six passes. Deland has six forced incomplets and four decays. Few defenders increased their draft shares in the same way as DELANE. In the offseason, he was seen as a daytime choice. Now he is a potential first circle.
4. Garrett Nossmeier is not a rival trophy Hayisman
The preseason, it said that LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier is potentially a common choice No. 1 in the NFL Writer 2026. After the victory of the LSU of the week 1 over the clamps, the betting markets listed Nussmeier as The Heisman Trophy.
The name of Nossmeyer quickly disappeared from this discussion. LSU QB just did not look right in 2025. Whether it is an injury or just inconsistent game, nussmeier has yet to find a groove. Nussmeier was only 1/7 on the throws of 20+ yards across the field against Ole Miss, and the lack of explosion hazard LSU in the passing game is still a problem. On the throws of Nussmeyer, they lacked their usual lightning for most of 2025, which led to questions about his health.
A random bad choice is still happening.
With a date, to relax, perhaps we see another nussmeier against South Carolina.
5. The offensive line LSU has no staff
The regression of the LSU game is even further related to the line of offensive, which is not yet ready to protect the SEC. LSU replaced all five starters on the offensive line, including four NFL drafts.
It is difficult to replace one or two high -quality offensive linear linear. The need to replace four NFL players in one off -season is a difficult task. Nevertheless, Brian Kelly said that he was a “bull” in this unit at Secia Days, but so far we have not seen this.
LSU added two veteran line players to the transfer portal – the center of Brilin Moore and guard Josh Thompson. Moore was useful, but Thompson was struggling to repeat the success that he achieved in the north -west.
The left capture of Tyri Adams showed outbreaks, but to a large extent responsibility. The same can be said about the right position, whether Weston Davis or Carius.
It is difficult to see how this unit found out this year. In addition to the defender, an offensive line is a position where development takes the longest, and this does not happen overnight. If the young linear linear LSU players look like this in October, in October they will not look very different. These are talented players who can turn into productive linear players into a loaf, but a short-term forecast is not very good.
