“I don't like the children's term 'nepo' because these children don't stand up on their own two feet,” Kate Winslet recently told the BBC while promoting Goodbye Junefilm based on her son's script Jo Anders, which she directed, produced and co-starred in. Yes, suuuure…
Contrary to Winslet's patently absurd claim, single-parent children continued to rise to the occasion in 2025, but for some, parental support was not enough for them to find their own footing.
These 12 songs are obviously not the only children's singles Nepo will release in 2025, so we've set some ground rules: for artists who released more than one single this year, we've chosen the most popular of those songs; We didn't include unrelated babies who emerged from their parents' shadows and came into their own, so no Miley Cyrus or Gracie Abrams; We also left out Diddy's son's collaboration with Kanye West for obvious reasons.
Here are Nepo's 12 children's singles of 2025, ranked from worst to best.
12. Alabama Barker (daughter blink-182's Travis Barker)
“Cry, Baby”
Travis Barker's daughter spent the first few months of 2025 in a sticky feud with girl who “cash me out on the street” Bhad Bhabie. “Cry Bhabie” is meant to be a diss track, but it comes into its own thanks to a mild-mannered influence from Alabama's Ice Spice. Rapping as if she couldn't hear her backing track, she states, “Travis told me, 'Come and come.' This is bad advice from her father.
11. Something in the west (Chet Hanksson Tom Hanks)
“It's better to run”
I have a soft spot for Chet Hanks, who is actually quite good in Kate Hudson's basketball comedy on Netflix. running point. But “You Better Run” is from his duet song Leaving Hollywood The EP is pure dump country – a heroic dose of genre clichés, redeemed only by a hint of Forrest Gumpwhich Chet recreates in the video. May be try a reggae band instead of?
10. Xav (son Justin Trudeau)
“Until the End of the Night”
Now that Xavier Trudeau's father is dating Katy Perry, perhaps he can find the right hooks for his hip-hop/R&B funeral service. In fact, the former first son of Canada makes his country extremely OVO/XO proud with an example of the reverb-drenched “Toronto sound.”
9. Jade Street with Apple Martin (daughter Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow)
“Satellites”
I certainly understand why LA duo Jade Street asked Chris Martin's daughter to sing their “Satellites” because that thing sounds exactly like Parachutes. Apple certainly won't fall out of the tree amidst this Radiohead-lite guitar echo.
8. Automotion (Gene Gallagher, son Liam Gallagher)
“Circles”
Oasis weren't the only Gallagher band to have a big 2025. Liam's son Gene also released a couple of singles with his band Automotion, with “Circles” bringing a cloud of moody reverb to a sound that's closer to early Coldplay or Radiohead than his father's stadium anthems.
7. VILLANELLE (Lennon Gallagher, son of Liam Gallagher)
“Loop”
On the other hand, Liam's eldest son is more like his father. His band VILLANELLE released their first couple of singles in 2025, with Lennon Gallagher channeling Liam's sarcasm into songs that carried traces of punk, Nirvana-like alternative rock.
6. Inhaler (Elijah Hewson, son Bono)
“Billy (Yeah, Yeah, Yeah)”
Baby Bono has fronted Inhaler for over a decade since he was a teenager, and his sound is quite different from his origins on the funky “Billy (Yeah Yeah Yeah)”, which is centered around West African guitar licks. However, it does sound a bit like U2.5 when it hits some high notes during the song's nice, rhythmic chorus.
5. Magnus Ferrell (son Will Ferrell)
“Life or Death”
Of all the songs on this list, Ron Burgundy Jr. has the most promising chorus. The playful funk of “Life or Death” features a haunting synth riff, so it's a shame Ferrell sings it with outdated, affected cursive chantlike he has a mouth full of golf balls.
4. Mammoth (Wolfgang Van Halen, son of Eddie Van Halen)
“End”
There's no doubt who Wolfgang's father is, as “The End” begins with a tapping sound very similar to “Eruption.” But he has a few more tricks up his sleeve, as the song ends up cycling through several different flavors of hard rock, from thrashy verses to progressive twists and grungy choruses, sort of like Velvet Revolver at double speed.
3. May be (daughter Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith)
“FEEL MORE, SEEK LESS”
May be appeared on American Idol back in 2022 and has since been recording some pretty decent alternative pop, including an EP called Orange Drive back in May, followed by the stupid phrase “FEEL MORE, SEEK LESS.” In just two minutes, it's an insightful, uplifting conversation that never fails to deliver.
2. Hex girlfriend (Noah Yorkson Thom Yorke)
“As long as you move”
Previous content by singer-songwriter Noah York looks a hell of a lot like his dadbut he found his own voice with Hex Girlfriend and their 2025 EP. Exciting fun. “As Long as You're Moving” is a fun, bouncy take on post-punk with an industrial edge, although during the instrumental section towards the end it noticeably turns into a full-on atmospheric Radiohead jam.
1. Romy Mars (daughter PhoenixThomas Mars and Sofia Coppola)
“A-Lister”
A couple of years after she was fined for trying to rent a helicopter using her father's credit card, Romy Mars transcends mere novelty in the impressive “A-Lister,” a look at the world of glitzy celebrities she probably knows a lot about. She makes up for her vocal limitations with sheer personality, filling every line with internal rhymes and references: “Heartless, tasteless, nameless, famous / Never, never on my waiting list / We're judgmental and bitter, he's flying out of my sister / I kiss her and whisper, 'Look at my A-list star.' She hasn't become a top star in her own right yet, but it's a step in the right direction.
