“The end of the world. When I was 19 when it came out, it didn't grab me. I couldn't understand why I, as a huge and long-time fan of the previous two films and boys as people in general, didn't like it as much as I expected. It was funny and well written, but I came away from it feeling strangely disappointed for reasons I couldn't understand. At 32, seeing it again for the first time in years was an incredible shift. This is now one of my favorite movies of all time and I think Gary King is the best character they've ever written. Now I understand why they are proud to have created it. As a teenager, I just wasn't ready for it.”
“I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was essentially going through a midlife crisis when I watched The end of the world. I was wondering what I was doing with my life, missing the glory days and all that optimism of my youth.
So it's nice to see that someone else understands it. It's somehow forgotten Edgar Wright movie, but it's so powerful. The writing is great, with some tense moments and some great fights.
I watched it again recently and still love it, but I can see why those who haven't lived through this crisis might think Gary King is annoying.”
“The movie wasn’t really aimed at 19-year-olds. Simon has grown up.”
