If there was one thing that Montreal Canadiens fans were really looking forward to this season (except for the rookies), it was the power play… You see, there hasn't been much of a power play with a massive offense so far this season. To date, the Habs have only had an 18.2% success rate with the man advantage, and that's nowhere near what fans expected to see. Of course, we can't say anything about Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield either at 5-on-5 or on the power play. Lane Hutson also did a great job with four assists in six games. Zachary Bolduc is one of the new guys and he's off to a great start to the season. He also inherited the role bumper on the first wave of the power play and he made the most of it, scoring two points in that situation. On the other hand, many seem to think that seeing Ivan Demidov on the 2nd wave is more of a waste than a luxury.
In the last issue The Starr and D'Amico Show, the two hosts discussed this after a listener left a comment about it.
It's not difficult, it's not working right now, changes need to be made, and Ivan Demidov is quite possibly the solution. He always creates scoring opportunities every time he touches the puck. He has incredible vision and hands that put opponents to sleep. Why not put him on the first wave? We've seen him used in the first wave in recent episodes, but he never had the chance to be there this season…I'm willing to believe that the emergence of Bolduc after the playoffs has changed the situation a little, and even if the Quebecers play very well, he can certainly move into the second wave in favor of the Russian.
Personally, I don’t think Bolduc would mind being in the second majority.
Moreover, by placing Demidov in the first wave, he will obviously end up on the right flank, which will allow Juraj Slafkovski to be in front of goal, where he is most useful. Suzuki will return to bumperCaufield will remain on the left and Hutson will be at the cutting edge. This would allow for a significant increase in circulation and better use of players (especially Slafkovski, who understandably has nothing to do on the right flank). This would also allow for a good second wave with Bolduc in bumper (rather than pre-injury Dach, a role in which he is not the most effective). Brendan Gallagher could stay in front of goal, which he does very well, Dach would be on the right wing to feed everyone, Patrik Laine (healthy, of course) would be on the left, and Noah Dobson would be at full-back.I don't know about you, but this makes a lot more sense and changes need to be made anyway.

– It’s a shame that we still have to see such comments…
Social media in general, not just X, is too often filled with inappropriate comments and abuse.
Here the victim is Prince Owusu and the abuse is racist. We must denounce loudly and clearly the hope of one day ending this problem. https://t.co/JdlXXz7lXr –Maxime Truman (@MaximeTruman) October 19, 2025
