12 Welsh game studios secure $775,000 in funding to help develop “innovative games and immersive experiences”

12 Welsh game studios have collectively committed more than £580,000 (about $775,000) to “help them develop innovative video games and immersive experiences for commercial release.”

The Creative Wales Games Development Fund, which has distributed funding across a variety of Creative Wales initiatives, hopes to encourage new creative concepts “through robust market strategies, supporting businesses on the path to achieving self-sustaining growth and long-term commercial success” as content ranges from “quests set in rural areas, to virtual reality adventures and adventures inspired by Welsh mythology.”

“With the Growth Fund, Rarebit Studios is doubling in size and launching an ambitious new project, Solitaire.io,” said Gaz Thomas of Rarebit Studios. “We pride ourselves on creating world-class games in North Wales and Creative Wales’ support helps us take them to the next level.”

Will Humphrey from Sugar Creative in Cardiff added: “Securing the support of Creative Wales has been transformative for Sugar Creative. This funding has allowed us to push the boundaries of compelling storytelling and accelerate development of the project with Hat Trick Productions and HTM Television, expanding our ambitions. This is more than just financial support; It’s a vote of confidence in our vision and in Wales as a center for cutting-edge gaming innovation.”

The Game Scaling Up Fund for Wales, the first of its kind for the devolved UK, was launched earlier this year as part of a campaign by Creative Wales and the UK Games Fund. It awarded a total of $1.15 million (£850,000) to six independent Welsh game developers..
